A strong earthquake hit New Zealand late July 25. The tremors reached Auckland but no injuries or destruction were reported so far. In California, a lesser 2.1 quake struck near Ocotillo Wells the day before. Continuing aftershocks continue to strike Venezuela after the country’s recent major quakes. A large number of people are trapped under debris as rescue and medical teams work nonstop. PAHO says hospitals are urgently seeking aid to cope with additional crises.
